  • Two new indexes at the end: an index of verses, and an index of hadiths and reports.
  • New typesetting in A5 format, 476 pages, with page numbering starting at 5.

About the book

The book addresses the first-year university student and treats the move from school to university as a change in how one thinks and in what responsibility means, not merely a change of place or timetable.

It grows out of direct academic and teaching experience in university classrooms and out of the questions students themselves ask at the start: how to learn rather than memorise, how to manage time and freedom when no one is watching, how to build relationships and a presence in a diverse university community, and how to turn a specialisation into a mission with lasting effect.

It does not offer quick recipes for success. It builds a rounded awareness along six axes that join the skills of a student of knowledge to their ethics, and the intellectual side of a student’s formation to the human and moral side.

The six parts

  • Self-awareness: discovering oneself, building identity and inner discipline.
  • Academic awareness: understanding how learning works, and building the tools and ethics of a student.
  • Social awareness: managing relationships and emotions, and a balanced presence in university society.
  • Faith awareness: purifying the heart and keeping the bond with Allah amid busyness and trials.
  • Practical awareness: turning knowledge into impact, an idea into a project, a specialisation into a mission.
  • Digital awareness: using technology consciously, so that it stays a useful tool and not a force that consumes a person from within.

The book closes with a conclusion and six practical appendices, including a plan for the first ninety days at university, self-review questions and short practical templates.
