The Profitable Trade in the Cause of Allah

This article reflects on the Qur’anic invitation: “Shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful punishment?” It presents the passage in Surat al-Saff as a merciful summons to a form of trade unlike worldly commerce, one whose capital is faith, sacrifice, and striving for Allah.

Relying on insights drawn from Itmam al-Rasf bi-Dhikr ma Hawat-hu Surat al-Saff min al-Ahkam wa-al-Wasf, the article explains that this trade consists in believing in Allah and His Messenger and striving with wealth and selves. Its “profit” is then unfolded by the verses themselves: forgiveness, gardens beneath which rivers flow, pleasant dwellings, and also a beloved worldly gift, namely divine support and a near victory.

The article also emphasizes the rhetorical beauty of describing salvation in the language of trade. The Qur’an meets human instinct for gain and redirects it toward the highest and most enduring success.

Its conclusion is exhortative: the future belongs to the religion of Allah, and the believer is called to enter this profitable trade through sincerity, action, sacrifice, and certainty in Allah’s promise.
