A series on the principles of verifying reports and applying them to contemporary doubts about the Sunnah and Muslim history. The first article sets out how hadith scholars examined both chains and texts, and separates a report being authentic from an argument built on it being valid; the second applies this balance to the claim that the name al-Quds came later than Iliya' and to what has been built on that claim. The articles document texts from their sources and present views fairly; the author of this site first published them on the Alukah Network.

The first Mizan article explains how the hadith critics examined both the chain and the text of a report, and turns their method into practical questions for weighing contemporary doubts about the Sunnah and Islamic history.
The second Mizan article applies the series' method to the claim that the city's early name Iliya proves the sanctity of al-Aqsa to be a later invention, separating the history of names from the evidence for the mosque's virtue.
