A Benefit on the Superiority of the Companions of the Prophet

Over the Companions of Moses and Jesus

This article reflects on the special rank of the Companions of the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم by comparing their responses to those of some followers of earlier prophets. Its aim is to highlight the distinct honor God granted this Ummah through the faith, loyalty, and sacrifice of the Prophet’s Companions.

The article first recalls a famous report from Ibn Mas’ud that God looked into the hearts of His servants and found the heart of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to be the best of them, then chose for him companions whose hearts were the best after his. This sets the theological frame for the comparison that follows.

It then contrasts the hesitant and resistant response of some followers of Moses, who said, “Go, you and your Lord, and fight; we are sitting here,” with the response of al-Miqdad before the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, declaring that the Companions would fight at his right, his left, before him, and behind him. The contrast is presented as a sign of extraordinary firmness and devotion.

A second comparison is made with the disciples of Jesus as they requested a heavenly table so that their hearts might be reassured. Against this, the article places the deep certainty of the Prophet’s senior Companions, especially Abu Bakr and Umar, whose faith in the unseen was affirmed by the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم himself. It further contrasts reports from Christian scripture in which Jesus’ followers fled at a critical moment with the bravery of the Companions at Uhud and Hunayn, where they shielded the Prophet and remained with him under extreme danger.

The conclusion is that the Companions of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم were uniquely blessed in steadfastness, certainty, and sacrificial loyalty. Their rank is not merely historical admiration, but part of the divine favor shown to this Ummah. Loving them and taking them as exemplars is therefore a natural extension of loving the religion they preserved and defended.
